Tips from an Pro

Howdy folks! After 20 years as healthcare professionals – and now teaching other doctors – I’ve picked up a thing or two about making a medical website that really connects with patients. And let me tell you, in today’s digital age, your website is one of your most powerful tools for attracting new patients and building trust.

I remember the early days of getting my first site up in the 90s – what a clunky process that was! But now, with user-friendly platforms like Wix and Squarespace, getting a professional site up quickly is a breeze. Of course, you’ve still got to pay attention to the key details that make a site truly patient-friendly.

So from this pro to you aspiring website wizards, here are my top tips:

Clear Navigation is Crucial

I can’t emphasize this enough: your website’s navigation needs to be intuitive and easy to follow. Patients get frustrated fast clicking around a confusing site. Keep your main menu clean and prominently placed. Get rid of clutter. Highlight sections for new patients, existing patients, contact info – you get the gist.

Accuracy is King

You’d be amazed how often I visit sites with wrong info about hours, services, staff, etc. Even small inaccuracies make you look sloppy. Validate all your details twice a year. Outdated info erodes trust quicker than anything.

Photos and Videos Set the Vibe

Whether it’s images of your office, procedures, or even your staff and doctors, high-quality photos and videos help patients visualize your practice. They also add some visual flair to break up blocks of text. Just don’t get carried away with stock photos – keep it authentic.

Offer Valuable Content

Patients don’t just want info – they want education and insights. Share dental health tips on a blog. Explain your unique approach. Discuss new tech and procedures you offer. This builds confidence in your expertise. And it keeps patients engaged between visits.

Enable Online Access

At minimum, have a patient portal where folks can access records, send messages, and make appointments. Even better if they can pay bills too. Today’s consumers expect this convenience. Don’t make them pick up a phone for everything!

Now, a few rapid-fire bonus tips:

  • Use a responsive design – mobile friendly sites are a must!
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance – don’t slack on security.
  • Promote on social media – free marketing!
  • Update content regularly – freshness keeps people coming back.
  • Track analytics – see how visitors navigate and improve accordingly.

Whew, I know that’s a lot to digest! But take it from this seasoned vet – these tips will help you create a site that attracts patients and makes their lives easier. And isn’t that what it’s all about? Let me know if you have any other questions! I’m always happy to lend a hand to fellow dentists. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for my mid-morning nap. These old bones don’t have the energy they used to!
